Everyday Watercolor
I've been working through Everyday Watercolor by Jenna Rainey and so far I've made it to day twenty. I wanted to share my progress learning to watercolor thus far:
I wasn't really that happy with how the hummingbird turned out, so I decided to play around with the paints a bit:
Day 1
On the first day we worked on making gradations of color by painting lots of splotches:
Day 2
Day 2 we worked on making circles and seeing if we could make them bleed into each other in an appealing way. I was still struggling to control how dark things were and I wasn't sure how much water to use.
Day 3
Day 4
Day 5
Leaves were fun to do, though I still didn't have much control.
Day 6
I was starting to get the hang of things a bit more.
I felt like doing more this day so I followed a tutorial by Makoccino. It was a lot of fun.
Day 7
Gotta love happy little trees. Still struggling to get the right amount of water. Hence the cauliflower effect at the bottom of the tree.
Day 8
Day 9
I didn't really end up liking the colors I chose for this, but I didn't like the colors Rainey used either. (Blue and pink in her case.
Day 10
I couldn't get a very thin line with the brush I was using. I wasn't very happy with this so I tried again the next day, this time using colored pencils to get thin lines.
Day 10 (Second attempt)
Day 11
Day 12
Day 13
Day 14
Day 15
Day 16
Finally figured out how to get thin lines with paint instead of resorting to colored pencils. Woot!
Day 17
Day 18
Day 19
I wasn't really that happy with how the hummingbird turned out, so I decided to play around with the paints a bit:
Day 20
So that's as far as I've gotten up to now. I am still really struggling with the paints. This last one, you are supposed to get all the different gradations of color in the flower, but somehow if I follow her instructions, I end up kind of washing everything out. Still, I'm going to keep working on it.
